Prison Directorate Details Operation at Peqin Prison: High-Risk Inmates Transferred

The General Directorate of Prisons has released details about a large-scale inspection carried out this Saturday at Peqin Prison, during which prohibited items were seized. Authorities also identified a suspected case involving narcotic substances and confirmed that two high-risk inmates serving life sentences have been transferred.

Full statement:

Under the direction of General Director of Prisons Adriatik Kupi and the Director of Prison Police, Chief Officer Paulin Rajta, a comprehensive search for prohibited items was conducted.

The operation was carried out by operational and special units of the General Directorate of Prisons, supported by security forces from correctional institutions in Fier, Vlorë, Korçë, Berat, Rrogozhinë, Elbasan, Jordan Misja, Shkodër, Burrel, Fushë-Krujë, and Durrës.

Advanced equipment was used during the operation, including specialized detectors, surveillance drones, drug-detection dogs, and scanners.

The search covered all areas of the facility, including residential units, visitation and work buildings, the library, gym, observation areas, the “41-bis” high-security regime, outdoor spaces, surrounding buildings, and the external security perimeter.

During the inspection, authorities discovered and confiscated prohibited items, including improvised sharp objects, cables, other unauthorized materials, and modified electrical circuits. In one case, a suspected quantity of narcotics was identified, and relevant legal procedures were initiated.

As part of the operation, two life-sentenced inmates considered a security risk were transferred.

The General Directorate of Prisons reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining order and security in penitentiary institutions, stating that such inspections will become a standard part of daily operations rather than isolated actions.
