Death of Albanian Teen in Greece: Kefalonia Hospital Rejects Allegations, Calls for Investigation

Doctors have denied complaints regarding the alleged malfunctioning of the Emergency Department at Kefalonia Hospital, following the death of 19-year-old Albanian woman, Myrto. The allegations were made by an anonymous woman, while the Hospital Workers’ Union of the General Hospital of Kefalonia has called for an investigation into the case.

According to the complaints, doctors were reportedly called to the hospital but did not attend to Myrto—claims that have been officially denied.

In an official statement, the union requested an investigation into the identity of a woman who appeared on a television program posing as a nurse and making accusations about the functioning of the Emergency Department in the case of the 19-year-old.

“This woman, who presented herself as a nurse, for reasons unknown, falsely claimed that doctors were not present in the emergency unit when the 19-year-old arrived by EKAB ambulance, according to testimonies from the on-duty nursing staff.

As she herself stated on the program, she was not present at the incident and therefore could not make any assessment regarding the presence of doctors or the condition of the young woman at the time of her arrival,” the statement said.

The union is calling for a thorough investigation into the woman’s true identity and for the restoration of the reputation and integrity of the nursing staff at the General Hospital of Kefalonia.

Kefalonia Hospital stated that doctors and nursing staff acted in an exemplary manner, with the administration emphasizing that the staff fully fulfilled their duties.
