“From internment to Hollywood”, Aldo Shllaku shares his success journey in the US

Prime Minister Edi Rama hosted composer Aldo Shllaku on the “FLASIM” podcast. First, Shllaku shared his difficult childhood. He said he was born in Elbasan during his family’s internment under the communist regime.

Next, he explained his education in music. He studied in Elbasan and later left Albania after high school. Then, he moved to Greece and Canada. He studied composition in Montreal.

After that, he continued his postgraduate studies in Los Angeles. He trained at the University of Southern California.  Moreover, he worked as an assistant in film music production. He supported professors with orchestration and composition tasks.

Later, he joined composer Christopher Young. He contributed to major films like “Spider-Man 2” and “Spider-Man 3.” Then, he worked independently after five years. He launched his first animation projects and expanded his career.

However, he faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. He said the industry slowed down and became uncertain. Currently, he works on multiple projects at the same time. He collaborates with international teams.

In addition, he expressed caution about artificial intelligence in music. He said AI raises questions about authorship and intellectual property. Finally, he shared collaborations with major Hollywood actors, including Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, and Tommy Lee Jones.

He also announced upcoming concerts in Tirana, Shkodër, and Prishtina with the TOB orchestra. He said his journey reflects the transformation of the Albanian diaspora from migration to global success and influence.
