Heavy rainfall causes urban flooding in northern Albania city of Lezha

TIRANA, April 21 – Heavy rainfall in recent hours has caused flooding in several urban areas of the northern Albanian city of Lezha. Water accumulation disrupted movement for residents and vehicles across affected zones.

Authorities reported the most severe conditions in the “Besëlidhja” and “Skënderbeg” neighbourhoods. Drainage systems struggled to handle the volume, leading to water overflow on streets and residential blocks.

Ongoing underground works in the city have added pressure to the drainage network. The project aims to rehabilitate and expand systems for rainwater and wastewater management.

Officials say the investment seeks to reduce recurring flooding during intense rainfall. The current disruptions highlight existing infrastructure limits during peak weather conditions.
