Edi Rama said Albania has never been closer to the European Union. He spoke during a conversation with Alexis Papahelas at the Delphi Economic Forum during his visit to Greece.
Rama said the Western Balkans are not forgotten. Instead, he said the region is in its best moment for EU integration. He added that the EU is more aware of the region’s geopolitical importance. Therefore, he said visibility and engagement have increased.
Meanwhile, Rama discussed NATO’s role. He said small countries like Albania do not decide major actions. However, they still carry responsibilities as members. He added that NATO actions bring both praise and criticism depending on the outcome.
In addition, Rama said regional cooperation has improved over the last decade. He recalled that Western Balkan leaders first met together in 2014 in Berlin. Finally, he said this is the strongest period so far for EU integration prospects.
