Edi Rama said in Athens that he aims to reach agreement with Greece within the year. He works with Kyriakos Mitsotakis to resolve all issues. During a talk with Alexis Papahelas of Kathimerini at the Delphi Economic Forum, Rama said the Beleri case created difficulties. However, he stressed that both leaders stayed respectful and open.
Therefore, they decided not to let disputes dominate relations. Instead, they aim to solve all outstanding issues. They plan to announce a full agreement by next autumn. Meanwhile, Rama highlighted the Greek minority in Albania as an important asset. He also praised Albanians living and integrated in Greece. In addition, he called for ending the war law issue and said there are no other major problems.
Then, Rama rejected returning to the Beleri case. He said Beleri is now a Member of the European Parliament. Moreover, Rama stressed that Albania’s judiciary is independent. He admitted the situation requires patience. Finally, he noted that many detainees still await trial and said similar cases have affected several mayors.
