TIRANA, April 23 – The Council of Ministers approved zoning and a management plan for Orikum Archaeological Park. The site received designation last week as an immovable cultural asset. The decision sets rules for protection, preservation and administration.
Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports Blendi Gonxhja said the measure strengthens the legal and institutional framework for managing the archaeological site. He said it ensures specialised administration focused on preservation, research and promotion of its historical value. He described it as an independent management unit with a structured approach.
The zoning plan divides the park into two main areas, Zone A and Zone B. Authorities define different protection levels and intervention rules for each zone. The structure aims to balance conservation with controlled development where applicable.
Zone A covers the core of the ancient city and receives the highest level of protection. It allows only conservation, restoration and scientific research activities. Zone B includes surrounding areas with archaeological potential, where any intervention requires assessment and controlled approval.
