Albania hosts International Girls in ICT Day 2026 event promoting inclusion of women in technology

TIRANA, April 23 – Albania is hosting the International Girls in ICT Day 2026 event, a global initiative of the International Telecommunication Union aimed at encouraging more women to enter the technology and communications sectors.

The event in Tirana brings together institutional representatives, international partners and the academic community under the theme “AI for Development: Girls Shaping the Digital Future”. Deputy Prime Minister Albana Koçiu attended and outlined progress in Albania’s digital transformation strategy.

The initiative forms part of global activities led by the International Telecommunication Union, with participation also linked to partner countries including Brazil. Discussions focus on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and expanding access for women in technology fields.

At the opening, Director General of the National Authority for Cyber Security Bledar Kazia underlined the role of human capital in digital security. International Telecommunication Union official Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava stressed the importance of widening participation in the digital economy and strengthening skills development.
