EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos reported positive developments for Albania and Montenegro on their path to EU membership. She met Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Athens. They discussed EU enlargement and the Western Balkans.
Mitsotakis said enlargement had not made the expected progress but noted a new momentum. He stressed Greece’s strong interest in integrating the Western Balkans into the European Union. He added that Greece maintains close ties with the region.
Kos described Greece as an important partner in the enlargement process. She highlighted recent positive developments in Albania, Montenegro, Ukraine, and Moldova. She also referred to Greece’s future presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2027.
The two officials discussed steps to advance enlargement. They also addressed efforts to build trust between Türkiye and EU member states, especially Cyprus.
