Reform aims to strengthen Albanian municipalities through territorial reform

TIRANA, April 24 – Albania’s special parliamentary committee on administrative-territorial reform continued nationwide consultations, focusing on concerns over municipal competencies.

In Lezha, local hearings highlighted concerns raised by municipal leaders regarding the scope of local government powers. During the discussion, the Minister of State for Local Governance, Ervin Demo, addressed the issues raised.

Responding to concerns, Demo said the reform aims to strengthen municipalities and improve public services. He added that the process incorporates feedback from local actors, including mayors, councils, and citizens.

Looking ahead, consultation sessions will continue across all regions until the end of May. Authorities said the process will feed into the final assessment phase of the reform.
