Nationwide coastal maintenance drive begins ahead of summer season

TIRANA, April 24 – Authorities have begun a nationwide coastal maintenance drive across municipalities and natural parks ahead of the summer tourist season.

The Ministry of Environment is coordinating the effort with other institutions, local governments and volunteer groups. Teams are carrying out maintenance work along beaches and public areas, including sand conditioning in coastal zones near Durrës.

Across the country, municipalities are extending operations to forests, riverbanks and urban spaces. In Vlora, crews are working along the coastline and in the Soda Forest, while parallel efforts are under way in Lezha, Himara and Saranda, as well as along the Mat river and Lake Fierza, north of the country.

Officials said the drive will continue in the coming weeks as part of broader seasonal preparations. They added that public engagement and enforcement will support environmental standards during the peak tourism period.
