Rama on visit to Greece: Mitsotakis has full willingness to address all outstanding issues

Prime Minister Edi Rama said this Sunday during his podcast “Flasim” that he spoke about his visit to Greece as part of his participation in the Delphi Economic Forum. Rama emphasized that during his meeting with his Greek counterpart, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, they expressed confidence that they will properly address long-standing issues between the two countries.

“The stop in Athens was of a different nature, but still connected to what I mentioned at the beginning—Albania’s position and the desire to see Albania represented at the highest level and to have our views and opinions heard, especially in this case at an economic forum with international reputation and prestige. Due to neighborhood and history, Albania had a special place on that platform, where key directions of global and regional development are discussed, including relations with neighboring countries.

I went to take part in the forum, but I also had the pleasure of being received by the Prime Minister of Greece and a valued friend, Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Together, we reviewed the progress of the joint working group we have established to once and for all address all outstanding issues and to take the interstate relationship between Albania and Greece to a new level.

I am very pleased to say that there is absolute willingness on the part of the Prime Minister to prioritize addressing all inherited issues and to confirm within this year, through a new strategic partnership document, the very special nature of the relationship between the two countries. At the same time, Greece will continue to support Albania—as it has always done, except for some difficult moments—on its path toward membership in the European Union.

Having said all this, I am very optimistic and confident that, thanks also to the personal commitment of Prime Minister Mitsotakis, we will be able to address the outstanding issues and further strengthen our relationship through special care both for the Greek minority in Albania and for Albanians living in Greece,” Rama said.
