Ceramic Workshop in Fishtë Becomes Tourist Attraction

After years in Italy, artisan Vasil Ukaj returned to his hometown of Fishtë to start a ceramics business. He launched the workshop in 2000 in a small family space, which has since grown into a popular stop for visitors.

Tourists now visit the studio to watch the production process, try working with clay, and purchase handmade items. The family-run business produces around 300 products, from traditional restaurant pottery to artistic objects inspired by Albanian ethnography.

Ukaj said the workshop receives visitors from around the world and cooperates with local agrotourism businesses. The craft has also become a family tradition, with younger members guiding tourists and helping preserve the art.

Products from the workshop are sold in tourist cities such as Berat, Gjirokastër, and Sarandë, while the business has expanded to markets in Montenegro and Kosovo. Ukaj aims to build a strong “Made in Albania” brand by promoting traditional craftsmanship.
