Kosova ratifies agreement with Albania for Prishtina 2030 Mediterranean Games

TIRANA, April 27 – Kosovo’s parliament approved the draft law ratifying an agreement with Albania for the Mediterranean Games “Prishtina 2030”. Lawmakers voted 93 in favour, with no votes against and no abstentions. The agreement formalises cooperation between the two countries for the organisation of the Games. Opposition parties, including the Democratic Party of Kosova, the Democratic League of Kosova, and the Alliance for the Future of Kosova, also supported the draft law.

Minister of Youth and Sports Blerim Gashani said the agreement does not reduce Kosovo’s role as host. He said it strengthens Kosova’s position through regional cooperation. He added that Kosova does not have sea access. For this reason, sailing events will take place in Durrës, Albania. He said the arrangement follows international standards and reflects practical cooperation between the two countries.

Lawmaker Bylbyl Sokoli of the ruling Vetevendosje [Self-Determination] Movement said Kosova remains the host of “Prishtina 2030”. He said Albania will act as partner for sailing events in Durrës. Arbnore Salihu from the Democratic Party of Kosova said the agreement is important for the Games and confirmed support from her group. The Democratic League of Kosova also backed the draft law, saying it serves the national interest and strengthens international cooperation. AAK lawmaker Time Kadrijaj welcomed the agreement and said cooperation between Kosovo and Albania had been limited in recent years.

The Mediterranean Games “Prishtina 2030” will become the largest international sporting event ever organised in Kosova.
