Fire safety inspection plan launched in Tirana after apartment blaze

TIRANA, April 29 – The acting Mayor of Tirana, Anuela Ristani, meets emergency structures, municipal police, and fire service teams. The meeting follows a fire in an apartment building in the “Farmacia 10” area, where 71 apartments burned.

Ristani praises the coordinated response of all structures. She says the quick intervention enables the evacuation of residents without loss of life. She also thanks emergency teams, firefighters, municipal police, and administrative staff for their joint action and for securing temporary housing for affected families.

At the same time, she announces a broader inspection plan for fire safety measures in buildings that received construction permits from the Municipality of Tirana. She says some of these buildings fall outside full post-permit verification controls due to legal and procedural gaps.

Ristani says the municipality will immediately launch fire safety inspections for all such buildings. She stresses that the goal is to address public concerns and increase safety assurance for residents.

Meanwhile, she explains that fire safety inspections currently focus mainly on commercial entities. She adds that residential buildings depend heavily on building administrators. She says administrators must ensure maintenance and compliance with safety conditions.

In conclusion, Ristani says inspection findings will be reported at all institutional levels. She adds that authorities will take appropriate measures based on the results.
