Foreign Minister says Albania on the right track, European Parliament committee backs enlargement progress

TIRANA, May 5 – The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, reacted to the adoption of a resolution by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament with 58 votes in favour on the European Commission progress report on Albania for 2025.

In a post on social media platform X, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs welcomed the development. It said the resolution reflects Albania’s steady progress and strong commitment to European Union membership.

At the same time, Hoxha said the resolution reinforces the European Commission report. It provides a balanced overview of negotiations and reforms. It also confirms alignment with European Union foreign policy and the rules-based international order.

In addition, the report recognises Albania as a frontrunner in the enlargement process. Hoxha pointed to political consensus on European integration. He also highlighted strong public support. Authorities have also opened all negotiation clusters.

Meanwhile, the resolution notes Albania’s goal to close negotiations by 2027. Hoxha described this as a decisive phase in the accession process.

At the same time, the document identifies areas that require further work. These remain part of the negotiation process. Albania continues dialogue with European institutions on these issues.

Furthermore, the resolution confirms Albania’s full alignment with the European Union Common Foreign and Security Policy. This position reflects Albania’s role as a reliable partner in strategic issues.

In addition, the report highlights Albania’s contribution to regional stability. It also notes participation in European Union initiatives, including the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.

Finally, the resolution confirms that Albania remains on the right track. Enlargement delivers concrete results. The government will continue reforms. It will also maintain momentum toward European Union membership.

Appreciation went to rapporteur Andreas Schieder. The Foreign Affairs Committee also received thanks. Members of the European Parliament received recognition for continued support of Albania’s European path.
