He was born in Korça. He studied at the University of Saint Petersburg. He earned a doctorate in literature. He began his career as a lecturer in Korça. He later taught at the University of Tirana.
He joined the leadership of the Party of Labour. After 1990, he became Deputy Chairman of the Socialist Party. He held the post until 1996. He led major political campaigns. He opposed the constitutional referendum. He supported efforts to free Fatos Nano.
He served as one of the longest-standing members of Parliament. He contributed actively to its work. He played a role in key committees.
His death marks a major loss for Albanian politics. It also affects the legacy of the democratic transition.
