Former Speaker of Parliament Servet Pëllumbi was laid to rest following tribute ceremonies held in his honor at the premises of the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet.
Hundreds of people attended the final honors for the well-known socialist politician, including friends, relatives, and political representatives, who praised his maturity and balance both as a politician and as a person.
At the conclusion of the tributes, speeches were delivered by his son, former Socialist MP Arben Pëllumbi, former MP Namik Dokle, and Prime Minister Edi Rama.
In his speech, Rama spoke about how his admiration for Servet Pëllumbi developed over time and about the values conveyed by the former Speaker.
“I would like to express my condolences to the professor’s entire family. At the same time, I want to thank Namik for generously sharing the responsibility of speaking about the professor. I felt greatly relieved because I was completely unable to prepare a speech the way a student should prepare before a professor,” Rama said among other remarks.
