EU Ambassador Urges Wider Participation in Lawmaking in Albania

A meeting focused on improving lawmaking and increasing transparency took place today in Tirana. Participants included members of Parliament, state institutions, civil society, and international partners.

The discussions focused on more inclusive processes. These processes aim to ensure wider participation and faster alignment with EU standards.

EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato and Swedish Ambassador Niklas Ström also attended the meeting. They stressed the importance of involving all actors in the legislative process.

Participants agreed that quality laws come from open and transparent consultations. They said every stakeholder should have the opportunity to contribute.

Gonzato highlighted the importance of inclusive processes for Albania’s EU integration. He said broad participation builds public trust and strengthens ownership of reforms.

He also said citizens better understand how reforms improve daily life when they are included in the process.

Finally, Gonzato emphasized the role of Parliament. He said it must ensure oversight, transparency, and quality in lawmaking.
