Health Minister Sala presents national strategy for artificial intelligence in healthcare in Milan

TIRANA, May 8 – Minister of Health and Social Welfare Evis Sala presented Albania’s national strategy for the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare in Milan. The presentation focused on oncology during the First Congress on Artificial Intelligence in Oncology. The event was organised by the European Society for Artificial Intelligence and Scientific Research on Tumours and led by Albanian doctor Arsela Prelaj.

Sala highlighted the role of the Albanian diaspora in advancing science and supporting healthcare reforms in Albania. She placed special emphasis on oncology and technological innovation. She also underlined the contribution of Albanian doctors working abroad to the development of the national health system.

In her remarks, Sala said she felt proud that the president of the organising society is an Albanian oncologist from the diaspora. She said this community actively supports improvements in Albania’s oncology system, including the Institute of Oncology, regional oncology centres, and the Albanian Oncology Network.

She also said Albania presented its government strategy for artificial intelligence, innovation, and digitalisation in healthcare at the congress. She stressed oncology as a key priority in the transformation of the health system.

Sala said the government works intensively on integrating digital systems and improving technology in healthcare. She also said Albania is implementing artificial intelligence in the sector. She added that the country is building a national model by combining technology and AI.

She further said this transformation creates an important opportunity to develop an integrated national model. She said this model could serve as a successful practice for other countries as well.

The two-day congress in Milan brought together experts, researchers, doctors, and institutional representatives from different countries. They discussed recent developments in the use of artificial intelligence in oncology diagnosis, treatment, and scientific research.
