Prime Minister Edi Rama said in his speech at the opening of Europe Week that Albania’s path toward the European Union is difficult, but irreversible.
Rama emphasized that the rule of law, as a guarantee ensured by the EU, cannot be negotiated.
“If today we are confident about the progress of this process, it is precisely because of walking hand in hand with the EU and at the same time being part of it, which serves as a guarantee. Many portray the EU as an obstacle, a burden, or a boundary that prevents people from breathing freely. But nothing could be further from the truth or more mistaken, because the EU guarantees the framework of the rule of law, and this cannot be negotiated — it can only be respected when you already have it, and built when you do not. On this day, which celebrates Europe as a cradle of cultures and shared will, I want to strongly emphasize that Albanians are at one of their best moments, and at the same time, the belief in being close to a united Europe is a guarantee of being on an irreversible path forward. It is a road with no return,” Rama said.
