Prime Minister Edi Rama: Europe Remains the Promised Land for Us, an Inalienable National Legacy

Prime Minister Edi Rama said in his speech at the opening of Europe Week that, for Albanians, Europe remains both a dream and a promised land because of the country’s long isolation from the rest of the world.

“For us Albanians, Europe remains, even in these gloomy times, what it was when it was beyond our reach, except through those faint signals that illegal television broadcasts brought from outside Albania onto our TV screens. For us, Europe remains a dream and a promised land, an inalienable national legacy and an unchanging political mission. Not because we are naïve, nor because we have illusions, but because we know very well — better than anyone else on this continent — what it means to live isolated and surrounded by walls built to protect us from Europe,” Rama said.
