Prime Minister Edi Rama, during his speech at the Socialist Party assembly in Elbasan, commented on the political situation in the country and Albania’s European integration process, while launching accusations against the opposition.
Rama described the opposition as “an ambulant catastrophe,” stating that the vacuum created by it could be filled with negative energy which, according to him, could hinder the country’s European path.
“The vacuum created because the official opposition is an ambulant catastrophe can be filled with negativity and with an energy that could obstruct us on this path. This is not a matter of arithmetic, nor of upcoming elections, because we do not have elections ahead of us except next year’s local elections. They have their importance, but they do not put into question our majority of 83 mandates,” Rama said.
Rama stated that the government has approved a series of laws required within the framework of European integration.
“We have passed 27 laws that were a package solely for the negotiations, because we have all the tasks on the table. There are endless measures and deadlines to align legislation with European Union standards. Out of these 27, seven were passed with 84 votes,” he said.
According to Rama, if the parliamentary majority had been narrower, negotiations with the EU would have been blocked.
“Now imagine if we had 75 mandates and the others had the Molotov throwers — where would we be today? Then yes, our negotiations would have been blocked, because Parliament itself would have been blocked,” the Prime Minister stated.
He added that the votes received by the Socialist Party have served to guarantee the necessary strength in Parliament to carry out the negotiation process with the European Union.
“That is why those votes were needed. That is why I insisted that we need them, we need them, we need them — and that is why we should all kiss the hands of those who gave us those votes, not for these chairs, but for the strength those votes provide in Parliament so that we can complete the negotiations,” Rama declared.
