Import of Italian wine: Albania and Italy agree technical solution

TIRANA, May 11 – Albania and Italy agreed on a technical solution to address issues affecting Italian wine imports into Albania. The agreement enables the normal continuation of procedures for economic operators.

In a formal statement, Albanian Customs said the Italian Customs Agency accepted the proposal submitted by the Albanian side. The solution addresses the current situation affecting wine imports in line with Italian legislation in force. Authorities also stated that detailed technical clarifications will be published on the official Albanian Customs website.

Earlier this year, importers of Italian wine faced increased excise payments due to the non-application of the differentiated scheme provided by law. The Albanian legal framework sets different excise levels based on the annual production capacity of exporters. It distinguishes between producers with output up to 10,000 hectolitres and those above that threshold.

Meanwhile, the technical arrangement between the two customs administrations aims to remove procedural obstacles in imports. It also ensures correct implementation of the differentiated excise system for Italian wine importers.
