Interior Minister Lamallari hosts Italian counterpart, focus on strengthening strategic partnership

TIRANA, May 12 – Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari hosted Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi in Tirana during an official meeting focused on strengthening the strategic partnership and bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The two ministers praised relations between Albania and Italy, which they said rest on historical, cultural, economic, and human ties. They also reaffirmed their joint commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Lamallari expressed gratitude for Italy’s continued support for Albania’s European Union integration process. He highlighted Rome’s active role in supporting the European perspective of the Western Balkans. He also said unity and solidarity between the European Union and regional countries remain essential in addressing current geopolitical challenges and preserving stability.

Police cooperation, migration management, border control, and security issues remained at the center of discussions during the meeting. Both ministers also highlighted the role of the Albanian community in Italy and Italian citizens living and investing in Albania.

The two sides described these human ties as an important bridge between the countries. They also stressed the importance of preserving and promoting Arbresh culture in Italy as part of their shared historical and cultural heritage.

The meeting took place in what both sides described as a constructive and friendly atmosphere. Discussions also confirmed the high level of political dialogue and strategic cooperation between Albania and Italy.
