TIRANA, May 12 – Defense Minister Ermal Nufi hosted Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of North Macedonia Major General Sashko Lafchiski in Tirana on Monday.
The meeting highlighted the importance of close cooperation on Corridor VIII, which both sides described as critical for military mobility and security in the Western Balkans.
Both sides confirmed strong neighborly relations and NATO alliance commitments. They said both countries remain committed to peace, stability, and security in the Western Balkans and across Europe.
Minister Nufi referred to the complex security environment and current challenges. He said Albania must further strengthen military cooperation with North Macedonia and reaffirmed Albania’s commitment alongside strategic allies and partners.
The two sides discussed contributions to regional security initiatives and support for NATO strategic objectives. They stressed that close regional cooperation remains essential for stability in the Western Balkans.
They also discussed personnel contributions to the European Union mission EUFOR ALTHEA and NATO mission KFOR. Both sides described KFOR as a key pillar for stability, security, and prosperity in Kosovo and the wider region.
Albania and North Macedonia currently cooperate within NATO frameworks and regional initiatives. These include SEDM/SEEBRIG and the US-Adriatic Charter (A5).
