Twenty Albanian films screened at Babylon cinema in Berlin

TIRANA, May 12 – Twenty Albanian films have been screened at the “Babylon” cinema in Berlin since May 7. The selection includes restored classics from the former “Shqipëria e Re” [New Albania] film studio and recent Albanian productions, including documentaries and short films. Meanwhile, the programme continues for six consecutive nights in central Berlin and presents Albanian cinema to local and international audiences.

The Albanian Film Festival “Fly Like an Eagle” hosts the screenings. It highlights the development of Albanian cinematography over time. At the same time, Prime Minister Edi Rama shared moments from the event on social media and invited audiences to attend the screenings at the “Babylon” cinema until May 13.

Meanwhile, Albania’s Ambassador to Germany Adia Sakiqi, Director of the Central State Film Archive Eljan Tanini, and curator Elson Zguri addressed the event. They described the festival as a cultural bridge between Albania and international audiences.

Separately, artist Klevis Ibrahimi presented an exhibition with 12 paintings inspired by Albanian film icons. Finally, the festival is organised with the support of the Embassy of Albania in Berlin, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Cultur Alb, the National Film Center, the Central State Film Archive, Babylon Berlin, and curator Elson Zguri.
