Customs Hosts EU Customs Network Meeting in Tirana

General Directorate of Customs of Albania hosted the 31st meeting of the EU Customs Coordinators Network in Tirana, in cooperation with the European Commission.

In addition, representatives from EU member states and candidate countries took part in the discussions.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between customs administrations. It also promoted the exchange of experience on implementing the European Union Customs Program.

Moreover, officials discussed key priorities for modernizing and harmonizing customs systems across Europe.

Director General Besmir Beja emphasized the strategic role of the EU Customs Program in Albania’s integration process.

He stated that Albania is actively working to meet customs requirements in the EU negotiation framework.

Furthermore, Beja confirmed that authorities have already submitted amendments to the Customs Code to the Ministry of Finance.

As a result, Albania is moving toward full alignment with EU customs legislation.

In addition, Beja highlighted that EU support has strengthened administrative capacity and improved modernization efforts within customs services.

He also noted that Albania aims to close negotiations on Chapter 29, “Customs Union,” in the first half of next year.

Meanwhile, participants reviewed the mid-term evaluation of the EU Customs Program.

They also discussed strategic customs management, expert cooperation, seminars, and working visits.

Finally, Albania presented its progress as a candidate country. It highlighted active participation in EU programs and continuous reforms to align its customs system with European standards.
