From Saranda, Koçiu Presents Plan for Managing the Tourist Season

Deputy Prime Minister Albana Koçiu, speaking from the city of Saranda, unveiled the action plan prepared by the responsible institutions to ensure a safe and successful tourist season.

According to her, all necessary measures have been taken at the Port of Saranda to manage the flow of tourists, facilitate movement, avoid delays, and guarantee maximum security.

Koçiu emphasized that in a country where the number of tourists has doubled and tripled over the past five years, managing the tourist influx has been a major challenge, but one that Albanian institutions have successfully handled.

“At a time when the new European Border Control System is causing long queues and major delays in EU countries, Albania has been described by many sources as an example of effective border management and the absence of long waiting lines,” she stated.

The Deputy Prime Minister underlined that the action plan has become more detailed each year, in line with the continuous increase in the number of tourists choosing Albania as a destination.

According to her, the Albanian State Police, Traffic Police, Border Police, and other institutions have already begun implementing a set of measures that include: increasing the number of checkpoints and staff at border crossing points; improving road signage; designating dedicated docks for tourist vessels; simplifying border crossing procedures; and continuous patrols along coastal areas to ensure maritime safety.

In addition, the National Fire Service has been prepared to respond to any situation, particularly the risk of fires during the summer season. Meanwhile, the National Emergency Service and the Ministry of Health and Social Protection have expanded the Summer Health Centers program.

Koçiu also announced that the Ministry of Culture will organize a series of cultural activities and events throughout the tourist season, while inspection institutions will monitor the implementation of all planned measures.

She also highlighted the new electronic system expected to be introduced soon at the ports of Saranda and Durrës.

“The e-Gate system at Tirana International Airport Nënë Tereza has proven highly successful in reducing border crossing times to just a few minutes,” Koçiu declared.

In conclusion, she stressed that Saranda remains one of the most attractive destinations in Albania’s tourism offering and expressed confidence that this season will also be successful thanks to the organization and commitment of the institutions involved.
