Estonian PM Michal backs Albania’s EU integration, calls country key NATO ally

TIRANA, May 15 – Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal described Albania as an important NATO ally during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Edi Rama in Estonia. He also expressed Estonia’s support for Albania’s European Union integration.

Michal highlighted cooperation between the two countries within the NATO alliance. He thanked Albania for its contribution to security in the Baltic region.

Meanwhile, the Estonian prime minister said the two countries share the same vision on European security despite the more than 2,000 kilometres separating them. He added that Europe must assume greater responsibility for its own defence ahead of the next security summit.

Referring to the war in Ukraine, Michal said Russia’s objectives have not changed and attacks against the Ukrainian population continue daily. He also stressed that Russia can be defeated and said allies are working together for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.

In addition, Michal reaffirmed Estonia’s support for Albania’s EU integration process. He said Albania belongs to the European family and encouraged the country to continue reforms linked to its EU path.
