Nufi: Focus on Modernizing Air Defense and Cyber Capabilities in the Armed Forces

Minister of Defense Ermal Nufi stated during a press conference on Friday that the country’s main priority is the development of military and technological capabilities for the modernization of the Armed Forces, as well as preparedness for civil emergencies during the summer season.

According to Nufi, particular focus is being placed on air defense and strengthening the army’s cyber defense capabilities in order to guarantee collective security.

“The main commitments of the Ministry of Defense are: Albania’s unwavering partnership as a NATO ally, the modernization of the Armed Forces, and the increase of their capacities for national defense and contribution to operations abroad. This commitment is clear evidence of our country’s reliability as an ally and partner in joint operations.

The development of regional cooperation within NATO, where we are engaged in joint operations and exercises, is an important point for increasing engagement and interoperability according to NATO standards. We will increase the capacities and modernization of the Armed Forces within the framework of collective security.

Our focus includes short- and medium-range air defense, drone and anti-drone systems, cyber defense capacities, armored vehicles, encouraging innovation in the field of security, and cooperation with NATO allies and strategic partners,” Minister Nufi stated.
