Albanian Film Artist Shyqyri Sako Passes Away at 89

Shyqyri Sako, one of Albania’s most respected film artists, passed away at the age of 89.

During a career that lasted more than 50 years, Sako worked extensively in Albanian cinema and contributed to the visual identity of many films.

First, he studied film painting for three years at the VGIK Institute of Art in Moscow. However, he could not complete his studies there. Later, he graduated in Tirana and joined Kinostudio in 1963.

Moreover, Sako worked as a production designer on his first film, Detyrë e posaçme. Afterwards, he contributed to numerous productions until his final film, Plumba prej plasteline, released in 1997 before his retirement.

In addition, Sako received recognition at the Fourth Albanian Film Festival for his work on the film Mësonjëtorja, particularly for its sets and props.

Furthermore, he created a large part of Albania’s historic film poster collection, which remains an important part of the archives of the Central State Film Archive.
