Foreign ministers of Albania and Montenegro focus on cross-border projects and cooperation

TIRANA, May 19 – The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha held a press conference with his Montenegrin counterpart Ervin Ibrahimoviç. They underlined close cooperation between the two countries and commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations.

Meanwhile, Hoxha described relations between Albania and Montenegro as a stable model of good neighbourliness built over two decades of joint will. He said the two countries cooperate as NATO allies across a wide range of bilateral, regional and multilateral fields.

In addition, he stressed the need to review existing agreements and increase the pace of cooperation in the interest of citizens and economic development. He proposed reactivating an important cooperation mechanism, the intergovernmental meeting, in order to advance concrete projects in economic, infrastructure and connectivity fields.

The two sides highlighted priority cross-border projects, including the opening of the Zogaj–Skje joint border crossing, the advancement of the bridge over the Buna River, and the Podgorica–Hani i Hotit railway. Finally, Hoxha also highlighted the role of Albanians in Montenegro and the Montenegrin minority in Albania as important bridges between the two countries.
