Salianji Sends Letter to EPP and Embassies: Democratic Standards Are Being Undermined in the Democratic Party

Ervin Salianji has addressed a letter to the President of the European People’s Party (EPP), Manfred Weber, as well as to diplomatic missions of partner countries, raising concerns about recent developments within the Democratic Party of Albania (PD).

In his letter, Salianji expresses concern that internal democracy within the PD is being undermined, mentioning the blocking of the leadership race, lack of transparency, exclusions considered arbitrary, and failure to respect the party’s statute.

He emphasized that the issue is not related to an individual candidacy, but rather to the protection of democratic standards and internal pluralism within the country’s largest opposition party.

According to him, the internal process has revealed a number of problems, including the obstruction of candidacies, the failure of the office responsible for receiving documentation to operate within deadlines, and exclusions made without reasoned decisions based on the party statute. He also raised claims regarding the failure to apply rules connected to leadership accountability following parliamentary elections.

Salianji called on the EPP to take a principled engagement in encouraging internal dialogue and respect for statutory rules within the PD, stressing the importance of preserving democratic standards.

At the end of the letter, he reaffirmed his commitment to European values, the rule of law, political pluralism, and Albania’s integration into the European Union.
