Albania Approves Procedures for Regional Development and Cohesion Plans

The Albanian government approved new procedures for drafting the National Plan for Regional Development and Cohesion and regional operational programs.

Under the decision, the National Committee for Regional Development and Cohesion will prepare the national plan and the operational program for the entire territory of Albania.

Regional monitoring boards will draft regional development plans for each development region.

The Albanian Development Fund will serve as the technical secretariat. It will provide administrative and technical support for the preparation and coordination of the planning documents.

The fund will also support analysis, interinstitutional coordination and public consultations with development stakeholders.

The government said the documents will follow national regional development policies. They will also align with sustainable development goals and international financing agreements.

The decision foresees broad consultations with central and local institutions, international partners and the European Union. Authorities may revise the documents according to economic, social and territorial changes.
