Greenhouse investments expand as Albanian produce reaches European markets

TIRANA, May 21 – Farmers in different regions of the country are expanding investments in agricultural production. They are increasing production capacities. They are directing products toward European markets.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Andis Salla, highlighted on social media the example of farmer Elton Biti in Divjaka as a model of investment and development in the agricultural sector. Salla said that the farm covers 3.5 hectares of greenhouses. He said that watermelons and melons are mainly cultivated there. He added that production reaches up to 21 tonnes per production cycle.

In addition, Salla said the farm’s activity has an impact on employment. Six workers are engaged on the farm. They provide income for their families. They also contribute to the local economy. At the same time, Salla underlined that the farm’s products are oriented toward exports to European markets. He said this is evidence of the quality and standards of Albanian “Made in Albania” products.

Meanwhile, the agricultural sector continues to remain one of the main sectors of the Albanian economy. It is seeing increasing investment in greenhouses, technology, and the expansion of agricultural exports.
