Albania Tightens Rules on Plant Protection Products

The Albanian government approved new changes to the rules on the registration and use of plant protection products.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development proposed the amendments. The changes aim to improve the regulatory framework for phytosanitary products in agriculture.

The new rules define the concept of “minor use.” It applies to plant protection products used for limited crops or special agricultural needs.

The decision also allows authorities to expand product registration for minor uses. Applicants, scientific institutions and professional organizations can submit requests. They must meet safety standards and public interest criteria.

The amendments also introduce new rules on product labeling, public information and user responsibility. The government aims to increase safety and efficiency in the agricultural sector.
