Lushnja hospital joins national investment programme

TIRANA, May 21 – Health and Social Protection Minister Evis Sala said the Lushnja municipal hospital forms part of the national investment programme for hospital infrastructure. She said services for citizens continue during reconstruction works.

Sala said the investment started in 2026. Works officially began on March 4 with the state budget and the Albanian Development Fund financing the project. The intervention includes rehabilitation of hospital facilities and modernisation of medical equipment.

In addition, works continue in emergency, imaging, surgery, intensive care, pathology, and maternity areas. Sala said authorities approved a temporary reorganisation plan. The plan guarantees uninterrupted services for patients.

At the same time, the minister said the hospital continues to provide medical services. According to her, the hospital treated 1,727 hospitalised patients during the first quarter of 2026. Meanwhile, medical staff handled 15,553 emergencies.

Furthermore, the hospital uses CT scan equipment, radiography devices, mammography units, ultrasound systems, and laboratory equipment. Sala said authorities installed a new anaesthesia device in 2026. In addition, they replaced ultrasound equipment. She added that the hospital will also receive new ultrasound and mammography devices.
