42 Countries Meet in Tirana for European Media Regulators’ Conference

The 63rd conference of the EPRA is being held in Tirana, bringing together regulators from 42 European countries. The event is hosted by the Audiovisual Media Authority of Albania for the first time in Albania.

EPRA Chair Stephanie Comey opened the conference. She stressed the forum’s neutral and non-political role. AMA Chair Armela Krasniqi presented developments in Albania’s media sector.

She highlighted legal reforms, transparency measures and alignment with EU standards such as AVMSD, EMFA and DSA. Krasniqi also spoke about the media ownership transparency register. She said it is publicly accessible and includes full ownership data.

She reported AMA’s work over the past five years. She said the authority has taken 550 decisions, most by consensus. She also noted 38 fines for content violations and 44 for TV piracy.

Participants discussed accessibility of audiovisual media for people with disabilities. Countries such as Spain, Bulgaria and Lithuania shared their experiences.

The European Commission, Council of Europe, OSCE and other media organizations also contributed. The conference will continue with workshops on current media market challenges.

The next EPRA meeting will take place in Ireland next year.
