Government promotes cooperation model for grain farmers in Durrës

TIRANA, May 29 – Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Andis Salla and Durrës Mayor Emiriana Sako presented a new agricultural cooperation model for grain, corn and wheat farmers in Durrës. The initiative aims to strengthen farmer organisation and improve competitiveness in the agricultural sector.

Salla said the model allows farmers to maintain independence in production. Meanwhile, farmers will carry out product sales jointly through agricultural cooperation structures. He added that the system will help lower costs, improve efficiency and expand market access.

In addition, the minister said the government will continue supporting similar cooperation schemes across all 61 municipalities. According to him, authorities will focus on priority agricultural products in each area in order to strengthen the competitiveness of Albanian products.

Salla also stated that registration in agricultural cooperation structures will give farmers broader access to national support schemes. He noted that the schemes currently cover 100% of applications for these structures. At the same time, institutions are reviewing possible fiscal incentives for participating entities.

According to the minister, cooperation contracts represent an important step toward formalising the agricultural sector and increasing agricultural production and exports.

Meanwhile, Sako highlighted the importance of farmer organisation and institutional support for agricultural development in Durrës. She said the municipality supports initiatives that encourage cooperation and create better opportunities for local farmers.
