Shkodër tourism rises 30% as Alps, museums and Shiroka–Zogaj drive visitor growth

TIRANA, June 4 – Tourism in Shkodër has recorded a significant increase in recent years, strengthening the local economy and boosting activity across hotels, gastronomy, trade and tourism services.

According to the Director of Tourism at Shkodër Municipality, Renato Lumçi, visitor numbers rose by 30% in the first five months of this year compared with the same period last year. He said the increase reflects improved service quality among tourism operators in the city and beyond.

Meanwhile, Lumçi said the most visited areas remain the Albanian Alps. In addition, museums in the city continue to attract strong interest from visitors. The Shirokë and Zogaj areas also recorded high tourist flows, especially from travellers seeking local experiences.

At the same time, he noted that cultural heritage plays a central role in Shkodër’s tourism profile. He added that Shiroka and Zogaj stand out for offering what he described as an authentic visitor experience.

In parallel, cooperation between Shkodër Municipality and local businesses is considered key for further development. Through joint coordination, authorities aim to improve conditions for sustainable tourism growth. They also seek to raise service quality and strengthen the local economy.
