TIRANA, June 4 – Prime Minister Edi Rama said nature protection should not stand in opposition to development. He said both objectives can advance together through responsible planning and architecture. Rama made the remarks at the second edition of the Bread & Heart festival in Tirana.
Speaking at the event, Rama described architecture as a tool that shapes the relationship between people and their environment. He said the festival’s focus on nature, the environment and landscape aimed to challenge conventional views that place development and environmental protection on opposite sides. Meanwhile, he argued that architects, developers and environmental advocates should work together to find common solutions.
In addition, Rama said preserving nature does not mean rejecting development. He said future progress should follow a model that respects natural resources and promotes harmony between human activity and the environment. He added that society should not only use nature for its benefit but also act in ways that serve and protect nature.
Later, the prime minister referred to ideas shared by a French entrepreneur whom he described as an advocate of community regeneration. Rama said the concept of sustainability alone may not be sufficient for future generations. As a result, he stressed the importance of regenerative development through architecture, urban planning and environmental policies.
The second edition of the Bread & Heart festival has brought together more than 600 professionals in Tirana, including internationally known architects from Europe, Asia, North America and South America. At the same time, participants are discussing urban and social development challenges and contributing ideas for Albania’s ongoing transformation.
