PM Rama rejects Zvërnec project claims, calls narratives hybrid warfare

TIRANA, June 5 – Prime Minister Edi Rama said no approved project exists for Zvërnec. He made the remarks in an interview with foreign media at the Western Balkans–European Union summit in Tivat. Meanwhile, he rejected claims about the project and described the debate as part of what he called hybrid warfare and false narratives.

Rama said protests over a resort have no concrete basis. He said no approved project is under discussion. He added that any assessment can only take place once a formal proposal exists. At the same time, he said social media has circulated narratives unrelated to reality. He referred to allegations linking the initiative to a deal involving himself, Benjamin Netanyahu and Jared Kushner. He dismissed the claims as false. He said the narratives aim to distort facts about Albania.

The Prime minister urged Western media to verify information carefully. In addition, he said architects, engineers and landscape specialists are involved in preparatory work. However, he stressed that no project has been submitted for approval. He said the goal is not environmental damage. Instead, he said the aim is a unique development for Albania and Europe. He also said the discussion extends beyond environmental concerns.

Rama said hybrid warfare includes hostile actors targeting Albania. He referred to Iran and said it has carried out cyberattacks against the country. Meanwhile, he said online campaigns have spread fabricated claims and edited videos. He said such content has no basis in reality. Finally, he reiterated that no project exists at this stage. He said the government has defined standards and will evaluate any future proposal once submitted.
