Albanian Iconography Treasures Head to France for Landmark Exhibition

More than 45 icons from the rich collection of the National Museum of Medieval Art will go on display in France for the first time.

The exhibition, “Icons of Albania – Treasures of the National Museum of Medieval Art of Korça,” will open on June 13 at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Chambéry. Organizers will keep it open until November 13.

Minister Blendi Gonxhja announced the news on social media.

Furthermore, Albanian and French cultural institutions organized the exhibition as part of the cooperation between Korça and Chambéry.

The exhibition introduces French audiences to a unique collection of Albanian iconographic art. The icons showcase artistic excellence, rich history, and the spiritual heritage of centuries-old traditions.

In addition, the exhibition highlights the distinctive character of Mediterranean Christian art. It also explores its connections with European artistic traditions.

The National Museum of Medieval Art preserves one of the world’s largest collections of Byzantine and post-Byzantine iconography. The museum safeguards thousands of icons and cultural heritage objects.

Finally, the exhibition aims to raise international awareness of Albania’s cultural heritage. It also strengthens cultural ties between Albania and France.
