Prime Minister Edi Rama said Albania is moving steadily closer to European Union membership. He stated that European partners strongly support the country and recognize its progress in the integration process.
Furthermore, he spoke on the podcast “Flasim” and referred to the EU–Western Balkans Summit in Tivat. He said the summit confirmed Albania’s progress, and it strengthened the country’s position in the enlargement process.
In addition, Rama recalled his visit to Tivat. He said he had avoided the city for years because of personal reflections linked to past investment opportunities.
He then referred to the Porto Montenegro project. He said Albania could have developed this investment in Durrës, but Montenegro secured it instead.
As a result, Montenegro transformed Tivat from a neglected military port into a major tourism hub. Consequently, the project attracted new international investments and reshaped the local economy.
Moreover, Rama stressed that similar investments followed across the region. He argued that Albania missed important opportunities that could have changed its economic trajectory.
Meanwhile, he described the EU–Western Balkans summit as one of the most important recent diplomatic meetings. He said it pushed forward discussions on EU enlargement and strengthened regional cooperation.
In addition, Rama stated that Albania now stands close to EU membership. He emphasized that the country has earned recognition because it delivered reforms and showed consistent progress.
Furthermore, he noted that Albania now plays a stronger role in European discussions. He said European partners listen carefully to Albania, and Albania also listens carefully to them, which builds mutual respect.
Finally, Rama expressed strong confidence in Albania’s EU future. He also referred to his meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz as clear evidence of strong international support. He concluded that Albania must continue working hard and maintain focus to achieve full EU membership.
