Rama: Shkodra Continues to Grow as a Tourist Destination

Prime Minister and Socialist Party leader Edi Rama said that Shkodra has become a thriving tourist destination that continues to grow year after year.

Speaking at the 35th anniversary of the Socialist Party in Shkodra, Rama rejected accusations that government policies have damaged Albanian cities and regions. Instead, he argued that investments have transformed many areas and created new economic opportunities.

He pointed to Shkodra as an example of this progress. According to Rama, the city, once left behind for many years, now attracts increasing numbers of visitors and generates more income for local businesses every year.

Furthermore, he highlighted investments in infrastructure and tourism. He said improved roads have opened access to mountain regions such as Theth, Valbona, and Lura. As a result, residents can develop businesses, earn higher incomes, and are increasingly encouraged to return to their hometowns.

Rama also defended the government’s “Mountain Package” initiative. He explained that the program addresses long-standing property ownership issues in northern Albania. Consequently, residents can secure permits, apply for subsidies, access bank loans, and pursue European Union funding opportunities.

In addition, he dismissed criticism that the initiative favors large investors. He argued that the package helps local families and emigrants invest in ancestral properties that previously lacked clear legal documentation.

Finally, Rama compared Albania’s development with neighboring Montenegro. He said Albania should not lose time to political disputes and should continue pursuing development and investment opportunities that benefit local communities and strengthen the tourism sector.
