PM Rama: Tourism success boosts foreign investment, rejects claims on cheap labour and environmental harm

TIRANA, June 9 – Prime Minister Edi Rama said Albania’s success in tourism has triggered growing interest from foreign capital and international businesses to invest in the country. He made the remarks during the 3rd National Conference on Vocational Education and Training.

Meanwhile, Rama rejected claims that foreign investors come to Albania to exploit cheap labour. He said such views do not reflect reality. He also said investors do not come to destroy nature or rely on low-cost migrant workers.

In addition, he said the idea that major investors build luxury resorts while using workers from countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, or the Philippines due to lower wages is incorrect. He said Albania does not have a large number of foreign investors and said such claims are unfounded.

At the same time, the prime minister said Albania had no significant foreign interest in tourism investment until recent years. He said the situation changed after progress in the sector. He said trust in the investment climate plays a key role.

Meanwhile, Rama said large-scale investment does not aim to damage countries or exploit labour. He said this perception is based on misunderstanding.

Finally, he said environmental damage is not caused solely by foreign capital. He linked it to development phases, limited planning frameworks, and cost pressures in construction.
