Prime Minister Edi Rama said the planned shipbuilding project in Pashaliman will create major employment opportunities and strengthen vocational education in Albania.
He spoke at the 3rd National Conference on Vocational Education. He said the project will initially create 400 jobs and later expand to 800.
Furthermore, Rama highlighted an agreement with Italian company Fincantieri to develop shipbuilding activities in Pashaliman.
He said Albania still holds an old shipyard that has remained unused for years. He added that the project will transform it into a modern industrial facility.
“Fincantieri is one of the world’s leading shipbuilding companies,” Rama said. “They will expand production, including military vessels.”
In addition, he said Albania will build smaller ships under the agreement. He said the first stage will focus on vessels for the Albanian Armed Forces.
Moreover, Rama said Albania will produce two NATO-standard warships. He added that both sides will later expand production through a joint venture.
He also stressed the role of vocational schools in the project. He said the Vlora Industrial Trade School will prepare students for training and employment. Furthermore, he said students will train in cooperation with Fincantieri. Some will also complete internships in Italy.
“This is what vocational education means,” Rama said. “It prepares workers for real industrial jobs.”
He added that the jobs will cover a wide range of skills, from manual work to advanced technical and robotic operations.
Finally, Rama said the project represents both industrial development and workforce transformation in Albania.
