Prime Minister Edi Rama rejected claims that a planned Zvërnec project involves political backing from the White House or former U.S. President Donald Trump.
He addressed journalists from EU member states at a press conference. He said public debate distorts the facts and focuses on family connections.
Furthermore, he said the involvement of Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump triggered public attention.
“I do not believe Albania’s flamingos would have created such a reaction if this were not linked to Donald Trump,” Rama said. “But this is not about Donald Trump.”
In addition, Rama said Kushner and Ivanka Trump visited Albania as investors. He said they explored business opportunities in the country.
“At that time, no one knew whether Donald Trump would go to prison or return to the White House,” he said. “I viewed them as American investors, not political actors.”
Moreover, Rama stressed that the government evaluates all projects based on facts and transparency. Therefore, he rejected any claim of political favoritism.
“I lead the government,” he said. “I want investors to come and invest in Albania.”
He added that Albania must not become a battleground for foreign political disputes. Meanwhile, he said authorities will judge the project based on results. It will proceed if it delivers. It will change if it fails.
In addition, he said the project will expand protected natural areas. He said it will increase greenery and environmental regeneration by 25%. He also highlighted the involvement of international architects. As a result, he said Albania attracts top global expertise.
Rama said Albania seeks transformative investment. He said such projects improve the country’s image and long-term development.
Overall, he said Albania must focus on growth, quality, and sustainable progress.
