Rama: PS 35th Anniversary Finds Albania Better Than Ever and Closer to the EU

Edi Rama states that the 35th anniversary of the Socialist Party finds Albania in its strongest position ever and closer than ever to European Union membership.

He opens the podcast “Flasim” and explains that the anniversary was planned in advance. He also frames the moment as both a celebration and a reflection on the country’s progress.

First, he says Albania performs better today than at any point in its history. As a result, he credits the Socialist Party and its governments for driving this progress.

However, he also stresses that the country must continue improving. Therefore, he argues that Albania still has significant work ahead despite its achievements.

In addition, he says only the Socialist Party can continue this development path. He describes the party as a “state-building force” that has led major reforms despite challenges and criticism.

Meanwhile, he refers to recent protests and says they reflect a tense but peaceful public atmosphere. He adds that these events require reflection on what society can learn from them.

Furthermore, he claims that misinformation and disinformation are spreading rapidly. As a result, he says facts are being pushed aside while speculation dominates public debate.

At the same time, he emphasizes that protests are a normal part of democracy. He states that democratic health includes the right to protest and express disagreement.

However, he warns that society must distinguish between debate and hysteria. Likewise, he separates criticism from defamation and argument from intimidation or harassment.

In addition, he says Albania must continue moving forward despite fear of major change or large-scale investments. He argues that progress depends on continued reforms and institutional development.

Finally, he highlights Albania’s progress toward European integration. He notes that the country has entered the final phase of EU accession negotiations, which focuses on closing negotiation chapters. As a result, he says Albania stands closer than ever to its strategic goal of EU membership.
